Former Australian wicket-keeper Brad Haddin spoke about India’s chances at the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy scheduled later this year. The 46-year-old, who was a regular in the Australian national team for most parts of his career, fears that India could go aggressive in the BGT.
Haddin made a presence at the LiSTNR podcast, speaking about India’s recent exploits over Bangladesh. Team India created history in the ‘fastest-ever runs’ category, eventually beating Bangladesh despite missing out on over two days of play due to rain.
Haddin lauded India’s efforts in Kanpur and also feared that they might hit Australia with the same trick in the upcoming BGT, starting from November 22.

The former Australia international believes that India have it in them to repeat the Kanpur thrashing in Australia, against Australia. The Men in Blue have won their previous two outings away from home in the BGT.
The former KKR player said, “I actually do (believe India can repeat the Kanpur strategy over Australia in BGT. Because if you look at this result… the worst result for India would’ve been a draw. There was no way India would’ve lost it. Rohit had nothing to lose. How good was it to watch! It’s a wonderful way to win Test cricket.”

Haddin took his hats off in honour of the Indian captain Rohit Sharma, players, and support staff for the strategy used in the recent Kanpur Test. Despite no play on the initial days of the game, India found a way to win, claiming all points on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
The Indian team had nothing to lose, as per Haddin, and they chalked out the perfect plan to play a ‘great brand’ of cricket, and bowling the opposition out in no time. India won the game with 7 wickets in hand, with just over 173 overs played across all five days.
He added, “They gave themselves a chance to win the game. It wasn’t about how many runs I score, it’s about finding enough time to bowl Bangladesh out. They played a great brand of cricket, but it was all about giving them enough time. My hat goes off to support staff, Rohit Sharma… he has always been this sort of captain: Win first. I love the style of cricket, Haddin lauded India’s strategy to go for the win in Kanpur.
“They could’ve had a net session, gone for a draw, no one would have said a thing. The mindset of Rohit Sharma to find a way to manipulate a result… teams are scared to go 10 runs/over in 20 overs cricket! So, I take my hats off to India.”
