Pat Cummins claimed wickets with the first two balls of Aghanistan’s last over, leaving him with the chance of a second hat-trick in as many matches, but David Warner dropped the catch which would have given the paceman a second hat-trick in three balls.

Warner charged in from deep point and dived but was unable to hold the difficult chance.

Afghanistan have been unable to cash in on a century opening partnership, losing four wickets for eight runs. The fourth wicket to fall was Rashid Khan (2), who was caught at long-on by Tim David.

Zampa claims two wickets in one over

Australia have claimed three wickets in as many overs after going almost 16 overs without success. A double strike from Adam Zampa saw him bowl Azmatullah Omarzai swinging to leg and Ibrahim Zadran (51 from 48 balls) went three balls late skying what appeared to be a bouncer from the leg-spinner.

Australia finally claim a wicket

Australia claimed their first wicket during the 16th over when Gurbaz (60 from 49 balls) charged a delivery from Marcus Stoinis and lifted it square to David Warner in the deep. Stoinis made an unusual gesture, adopting a funny walk, raising both hands above his head, and flapping his hands, as if waving the batsman goodbye.

Ashton Agar may be having a poor night in the field against Afghanistan, letting through two boundaries, but his bowling variations on a tricky pitch allowed him to concede just 17 runs from his four overs. Agar replaced Starc in the side on the spin-friendly pitch.

Afghanistan have scored their first century opening partnership against Australia in T20 internationals during another haphazard performance in the field.

Afghanistan survive review and stumping chance

Afghanistan have survived a review and a stumping charge as Australia continue to struggle to claim a wicket. During an eventful Adam Zampa over. Gurbaz hammered a six down the ground, Australia lost an lbw review against him to an inside edge next ball, then Matthew Wade missed a leg-side stumping as the batsman unsuccessfully charged. Ashton Agar then missed another bouncing ball of the ball on the boundary to let through another four.

Australia’s fielding continued to be inconsistent, with Travis Head allowing a second run after failing to back up properly. Wicketkeeper and vice-captain Matthew Wade began waving his arms around yelling to captain Mitchell Marsh to make field changes but he appeared to ignore the plea.

Afghanistan have been testing Australia’s fielding, risking successive run out chances to complete two runs as Ashton as Agar’s return to the bowling crease cost 10 runs in his third over.

Afghanistan have got through their first 10 overs without losing a wicket as opening batsmen Rahmanullah Gurbaz (36 from 35 balls) and Ibrahim Zadran (22 from 25 balls) play with increasing confidence after a slow start.
