Four Australian judokas, including world No. 2 Katharina Haecker, are set to compete at the World Judo Championships 2024 in Abu Dhabi, UAE starting from Sunday.
The six-day meet will be held at the Mubadala Arena in the UAE capital. Live stream will be available in Australia.
The World Judo Championships 2024 will also offer crucial points for the Olympic Rankings List. The top 17 judokas (one per country) in each weight class at the end of the qualifying period on June 23 will secure spots for the Paris 2024 Summer Games.
A total of 658 judokas from 107 nations will compete across 14 medal events in the Abu Dhabi meet.
Katharina Haecker, along with world No. 74 Coughlan Maeve, will feature in the women’s 63kg division.
Haecker, a two-time Olympian, is coming into the world championships on the back of defending her crown at the Pan American-Oceania Judo Championships last month.
World No. 9 and Tokyo Olympian Aoife Coughlan, who won her second straight silver in the women’s 70kg at the Pan American-Oceania Championships last month, is also competing in Abu Dhabi.
Commonwealth Games champion Easton Tinka, world No. 44 in the women’s 52kg, completes the Australian squad for the world championships.
The first edition of the World Judo Championships was held in 1956 in Tokyo, Japan. Australia have so far won six medals – three silvers and three bronze – across the individual and team competitions at the world championships.
Live streaming of the World Judo Championships 2024 will be available on JudoTV.
